If you haven't, you should. It's a fantastic movie that portrays a very dark time in American history, and shows just how much resistance existed when Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery. Well, recently a college professor in Mississippi saw the movie, and was quite moved by it. In fact, he did a little research into his home state, and learned that they had voted to officially abolish slavery in 1995! What's worse, is that due to a technicality and misfiling of paperwork, Mississippi technically didn't abolish slavery in 1995 after all! So, this professor made a stink about it, and just the other week - FEBRUARY 7, 2013 - the state made it official to abolish slavery.
Congratulations, Mississippi. Welcome to 2013.
