Alf was born in the 1970s. Early on. Really early on.
His first 7" single was "Theme from Rocky (Gonna Fly Now)" by Bill Conti. His first LP was K-Tel's Starflight. It was purchased because it had "Pop Muzik" by M at the end of side one. His first CD was Daft by the Art of Noise.
He went to college to become a high school math teacher, but a weekly show at the college radio station (even then, it was a retro show) made him realize that perhaps radio would be a better career option.
It took him over two years, four road trips and sixty contacted radio stations before he was finally offered a job. Overnights. In New Mexico. For $600 a month. He took it.
When the radio station shut down 18 months later, he again started searching, and was offered three gigs on the same day. He chose KTCL-FM (Channel 93.3) because he "liked the vibe". His first shift was the first weekend of May 1996. He has been on the air here ever since.
He took over the retro show in July 1996.
He took over Adventure University in 2000.
He took over Locals Only in 2002.
He's pretty much done taking over shows.
When he's not doing something music related, he enjoys trying out new restaurants (and revisiting old favorites) with Rick, reading, writing, dancing at Colorado Mammoth games, and referring to himself in the third person.
